Before & After

Ugly to Pretty in 4 Steps!

1. Assessment

Howell Existing Structure 2.jpeg

Understanding your needs is an important first step.  We will listen to learn how we can best serve you. Whether that's fixing your dock to get your lakefront property ready to sell or making an ultimate fun-zone for the grandkids, our goal is your goal.  This phase includes an inspection and measurements for the planning phase.

2. Planning

Howell Perspective 1.png

During the planning phase, we will deliver sketches or CAD drawings (if applicable), material options such as samples or swatches to choose from, and price estimates.  Once a signed contract is in place, we will give you a scheduled start date work can begin.

3. Construction

During the construction phase you can except clear regular communication, punctuality, and a clean organized worksite.  We will work with you to ensure the process goes as smoothly as possible.  We want to be as efficient as possible, but our emphasis is on quality craftsmanship and doing things right (even if they have to be redone) rather than on speed and maximizing profit.

4. Finished Improvements

I spent the summers with my grandparents and family in in the country in Leola, Arkansas.  Everyone had a garden, Sunday dinners were the best, and summers meant taking the camper to the lake.

During college, I worked in the same sawmill where my grandfather had worked to help pay for college.  After I graduated college, I got a job as a framing carpenter.  I went on to work for a different framing crew building large custom homes for in New Mexico.

Since then I took my dry land framing experience to the lake. I've worked for 3 different marine construction companies on everything from small repairs to large builds. It is very satisfying to create beautiful structures on the lake knowing it adds real value to family life.

My goal is providing you an elite level of service and craftsmanship so your family can enjoy the water for years to come!

Construction Methods

  • All of structural components are through bolted

    • Supporting girders and cross braces are 5/8″ galvanized steel bolts with the heads of the through bolt face the shore.

    • Outer bands are secured with 1/2 galvanized bolts every 4 feet

  • We use 3″ coated screws made for outdoor construction (never nails).

  • All corners and are secured with galvanized steel metal reinforcing brackets.

  • galvanized steel dock cleats are always through bolt secured to framing or backing never just to deck boards.

  • Floats are bolted using a flange system and through bolts and galvanized metal clips - never lag bolts.

  • We only use high quality materials

  • Specialized deck screws are run using chalk lines for a clean effect

  • Precision deck spacing and post cut outs

  • Decking is interwoven in large deck areas to avoid unsightly seams

  • All structural components are overbuilt and exceed inspection standards for durability and longevity.

  • Vertical structural wood ties are used to strengthen docks against uplift. These ties help keep framework level which reduce deflection in plastic decking.
